Sign*A*Rama franchise business in childrens safety truck transformation for Buckinghamshire Fire Service

Sign*A*Rama High Wycombe Comes To the Rescue of Buckinghamshire Fire Service

2nd June 2008 - Sign-A-Rama

When the Buckinghamshire Fire Service needed help to give one of their support vehicles a fresh new look Sign*A*Rama High Wycombe was the natural choice for the job.

Sign*A*Rama Franchise OpportunityThe brief for the project was to completely transform the outside of an old Operational Support Vehicle in preparation for its new role as the home of Buckinghamshire Fire Services exciting FireFighter Experience. In addition the fire service was extremely keen for local children to be involved in the project.

In order to get children interested Sign*A*Rama suggested that the fire service run a competition for children to draw a picture, the winning images could then be incorporated into the design to be used on the vehicle. As the FireFighter Experience is to be used by children up to the age of 12, the competition was open to any child up to this age.

Sign*A*Rama Franchise OpportunityTo ensure that they had a good base to work from Sign*A*Rama started the transformation by removing the existing reflective strips and words from the body of the truck. A layer of bright red Metamark vinyl was then applied to the sides of the vehicle. Images of fire fighters, flames and the winning pictures from the children’s competition were then added, these had been digitally printed in house by Sign*A*Rama.

The new FireFighter Experience is a mobile activity centre for children aged 12 and under. Buckinghamshire Fire Service Community Safety Partnership manager Keith Wheeler explains how the vehicle will be used, "We have created a scenario in which youngsters, working in pairs, can find out what it's like to search a building and locate a casualty. They do this in complete safety while the grown-ups watch from a viewing area at the rear of the vehicle. During the session they learn about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home, and of having an escape plan that the whole family has talked through so that they can get out of their home safely in the event of a fire or other emergency."
