The Rowans would be the first to give credit to their team for the results they have achieved.

When married couple Lorraine and Graham Rowan took the decision to invest with Select Franchising in the autumn of 2006, little could they have known how their empire would grow within the space of two years.

Their backgrounds as senior managers in blue-chip organisations had brought them into regular contact with recruitment agencies, so taking ownership of the existing Select Appointments office in Glasgow was a logical and educated decision. Just nine months later they celebrated the best trading month the office had seen in ten years.

In April 2008 they acquired the Edinburgh office of Select Appointments, capitalising on their success. Two months later they reported Edinburgh’s second best month ever.

Today they operate Parkhouse Recruitment (the industrial, technical and engineering staffing arm of the company) and Select Hospitality from both offices. These additional investments were obvious growth areas given the demographics and profile of businesses in Central Scotland.

The rewards of their labour were reaped at the company’s annual conference earlier this year, where they picked up the award for “most improved office for 2007”, together with being recognised as runners up for the “fastest growing office” and “budget busters” awards. In a network of 84 franchised offices, this is no mean feat.

The Rowans would be the first to give credit to their team for the results they have achieved. However, the couple lead from the front with tireless networking to build client relationships and strong values of customer service. With energy left to spare, they led their teams on a tandem bike race round the Isle of Cumbrae raising over £400 for charity.

They elected to go down the franchise route to set up their own business in order to generate revenue from day one. The proven operating formula, debt factoring, comprehensive training and solid infrastructure offered by Select Franchising clinched the deal.

The satisfaction derived from being their own boss and seeing their efforts directly impacting the bottom-line is what drives them on. Highlights like the senior appointment that yielded a significant fee last month, combined with a stream of business opportunities in the pipe-line and excellent prospects for long-term growth, make that satisfaction even sweeter.
